New year - new directions

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 27, 2010, 2:24 AM
First,  I would like to thank everyone that sent me the lovely Birthday wishes!   You're all wonderful and I consider myself honored to have you all as watchers, friends and family. :D

Second,  as I do each 'new year'  I like to try to find something new to learn about,  or a new technique or style to add something to my craft.

I can't say that I've honestly decided yet this year,  as I'm just now getting my wrist back in action - so perhaps in a week or so I'll make a more definitive decision.  For now though,  I think I will be:

#1.  Definitely continuing to improve and learn more knitting styles and techniques.  I'm very much in love with knitting (now that I have *finally* learned after nearly 35 years of wanting to).  There is so much still to learn,  I know this will be a fun road to travel for a long time to come!

#2.  In crochet,  I still am (slowly) developing a technique/style for doing the human dolls.  While I have done a few 'human' type characters (and of course the Holiday dolls)  I still have a bit to learn and perfect - particularly in the area of 'face and hair'...I have made note of many different styles and techniques,  but have yet to settle on my own unique way for my dolls.

#3.  Having rather recently acquired a new beading loom,  I'm keen to work up some beading charts and perhaps create some fun jewelry styles,  but more likely integrate the loom beading into the dolls/clothing that I crochet (and eventually also into the knitting)

Loom beading can create some pretty awesome accents for the dolls or clothes,  or can be used as an actually part of them.

We shall see how much of this I actually do.  LOL.   I'm really basically pretty good on follow through with things of this nature - but I also have quite a bit going on around me and I am *easily* distracted. :blushes:  I will have to keep reminding myself of my goals to keep everything in focus.

With that all said,  I am off to enjoy what is left of the year end Holiday Season  (although not really my favorite time of year,  I do enjoy some of it) - and plan my attack on what projects will be set in motion first in the coming year!

I hope that everyone will have a LOVELY New Year celebration - and a *safe* one as well :D

 Keep on hookin' y'all!

I wanted to explain why I'm phasing out my Etsy store.   I have opened a new store at Zibbet.com  and will be doing all of my sales through them now.   I'll add the link in bit here.

The reasons for this are simple:  Etsy does not enforce it's own terms of use policies,  nor does Etsy honor copyrights or make any attempts to discourage or stop infringements on their site.

A seller on Etsy has two dolls made from my FREE patterns for sale for 20 and 25 dollars.  I have contacted this seller repeatedly asking her to remove the listings.  Not only did she NOT remove them,  she put them in her 'featured' listing almost as if she was thumbing her nose at me,  and flaunting the fact that she knows Etsy will do nothing about it.

I contacted Etsy,  and was told to 'get an attorney'  and instructed to follow their copyright infringement reporting policy,  which is not only LONG and complicated,  but *expensive* and by the time any of that information gets to them, she will likely have sold the items making the time, money and effort I put into it completely USELESS.

I won't be closing the shop immediately,  however as items are sold or expire,  I simply won't be relisting them.

I have been hearing much lately about Etsy's poor record online with how they treat sellers,  and also that they consistently ignore copyright infringement issues on their site.  SANRIO,  Nickelodeon and other major corporations have filed legal complaints asking them to remove items that violate their copyrights  (such as sellers selling items like Hello Kitty, Spongebob Squarepants, etc)   but Etsy has done nothing about this  (these complaints were filed 2 and 3 YEARS ago,  Etsy has had the time to comply but simply does not)

I will be concentrating on my Zibbet shop from now on.  As I explore the site,  I find that it offers many things Etsy does not.   Sales mode,  advertising options, ease of listing and relisting,  and coupons that I can make for individuals,  one time use per customer,  *dollar* off amounts instead of blanket percentage,  and also Gift Certificates.   These are tools I look forward to implementing into my sales efforts in the near future.

For all of you who have purchased from my Etsy shop in the past,  THANK YOU!   And please,  feel free to browse my new Shop at [link] will be having a 'relocation sale' soon  .. after I've had time to spruce up the new store and organize things better there.  In the meantime all of the items you can find at Etsy are available at the new Zibbet store.

This change will likely hurt me in sales for a while, but I hope not for too long.   I simply can't continue to support a site like Etsy that so flagrantly disregards the laws, and disrespects the very sellers that keep their own company going.   I guess as long as there are people who do not care about the laws and common courtesy and respect - Etsy will have plenty of people selling items on their site.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement!

Onward to bigger and better things!

EDIT: Alright.  Here's what I'm doing:   Everything MUST go at Etsy.   I'm giving 20% off everything at Etsy until it's all gone.  I won't be re-listing the items as they sell.  Enter this code during checkout to receive the discount :  EMG2010

If you miss a pattern at Etsy that you really want,  don't fret!   I'm having a 20% off sale on everything at my Zibbet store until Dec 31st...  and no code needed,  all prices automatically reflect the 20% discount!   I will re-list items at Zibbet as fast as I can,  so if you don't see it there,  just wait a bit,  I'll be re-listing :D

So visit my Etsy store here first:  [link] you don't see what you want,  then go to my Zibbet store here:   [link] get the same discount till the end of the year :D

I'm hoping that this will help to facilitate the transition between venues...  and also give you a great deal on the patterns!  :D

First of all,  Happy New Year!   I do hope everyone has a wonderful and creative 2010. :D

I'm working on new patterns,  some pokemon that will become free patterns on the blog, and some originals I will put up for sale (eventually).   I'm wanting to branch out in new directions this year, perhaps going into 'baby doll' designs --  Raggedy Doll styles maybe,  or I might honor my son's *repeated* requests to make some DBZ character dolls  (he particularly wants Gohan SS2).  I think the DBZ characters would be fun and challenging,  with the muscular limbs and wild anime hair - but I kind of always wanted to make baby dolls for myself and the girls - so we'll see where I end up going.  :D

I'm always open to suggestions.  I seem to run out of good ideas alot  ...  probably because there are so many directions to go in I get overwhelmed and just can't decide,  but some of my best creations have come from suggestions from others,  so feel free to offer up any creative concoctions you have in mind. They don't have to be dolls,  I do almost anything in crochet, however  I do love doll making.  LOL

Many blessings to everyone in the new year.

Happy Hookin' !

:D

I know I'm slow to update my journal here,  but wow have I been busy!

Firstly,  a few of the patterns on my blog</u> have been featured on sites such as Daily Crocheter, OnePrettyThing and FaveCrafts and that has kept me hopping just answering emails from the blog.

I've also been developing new original patterns to sell in my shiny new Etsy Shop.  As of this posting,  I haven't added any of the patterns yet,  but by the end of the weekend I should have several available.  I'll be adding more as time goes by.

Don't worry,  I won't stop making the pokemon and other patterns that I offer for free... I'm just a little slower at getting them posted for the moment.  So much to do,  so little time to do it all!

Well the holiday approacheth, and I still have work to do on the Etsy shop, so y'all have a GREAT 4th of July weekend, and be safe.

I haven't really updated the journal lately.  Sorry about that,  been busy!

That hail storm we went through a few weeks ago? Well it did more damage than I thought.  We're getting a new roof,  all new paint on the house (the hail peeled the paint on the west side of the house like an orange) and several new windows.  At first I didn't see all that damage, but once we cleared away the leaves and branches and other general mess, it was obvious.  So I've been waiting on the insurance check so we can get about the job of repairing all this mess.

In between all that, I've been working hard on patterns for some of the crochet dolls and other items. I've posted many free crochet patterns on my blog. Most of those patterns are plushies and a few jewlelry patterns.  There's more to come soon, so keep a watch out!

I've also gotten a program to create PDF files, for patterns that I plan to sell at some point in the near future.  So I've been working on that as well.  Its a free program and is nice,  but learning all the little options and buttons is wicked fun.  LOL

In addition to all these activities,  I've been readying a good amount of items to sell locally at the upcoming fairs and bazaars.  It seems so much is happening all at once,  I'm tired and work odd hours but I'm loving it.

I hope that all of you have had a lovely Easter and are enjoying the first breaths of spring.  This is always such an exciting and active time of year.  Summer is around the corner and all that it brings too... we just have to get through the wet parts of spring first (but I won't bemoan the rain,  we still are in extreme drought conditions, so all the rain we get right now is welcomed heartily).

Until next update, enjoy the weather,  we'll be wishing it was spring again in just a few short months!  :)

I've added patterns to my blog (linked below) for Pikachu, Psyduck and Poliwhirl.  I'll be adding more patterns over time as I get them typed out. :)

Took me a little longer than I had planned because there was a day or so I didn't do much...  we had the worst hailstorm I've ever been in a couple of days ago and had a window in the house broken, thankfully nothing worse than that and a few limbs down and *lots* of leaves torn apart on plants.  Most of the hail was quarter sized, but a lot was golfball to slightly larger sized. In town thousands of cars and houses were really hit hard, I'm still seeing cars going down the road with busted windows and dents in them.

Hopefully, we'll keep getting regular rain showers here (we really need the rain still) but I don't want anymore hailstorms like that!

-----------------------------------

I broke down and got myself a blog [link] .  I'm adding patterns there, so I can keep things all together.  I've added the pattern to the pikachu plushie I made and will add others as I get them done.

Writing out patterns so that someone other than myself can follow them is alot harder than I thought it would be.  I usually just make myself some notes with numbers, a few sketches, some chicken scratch shorthand and that's about it.  To make a coherent pattern is nearly as much work as making the things in the first place. LOL

Well I hope I get better at it with time (and I hope it gets easier!).

(update)  I finished the project I mentioned  (  [link] )  and on the rain....  4 inches!</u></i> and they say at least one more inch to go before Saturday!       I won't dance this time tho,  I almost slipped the other night and so I'll leave the "Dancin' in the Rain" to Gene Kelly...  he's a better dancer anyway  LOL.

_________________________________________________

Well after months of predictions of rain and nothing happening,  it looks like it  will REALLY rain this time!  I don't think I've ever been so happy to see rain coming at me on the radar like I am right now.

I've almost finished one of the most difficult projects I've ever taken on  (and I won't do another one like this for free EVER!</u>)   If it wasn't the fact this is the only thing my son has ever asked me to make,  I wouldn't have done it... but in a day or so I'll post it.

It's not that this was bigger than anything else,  but it's the most technically intricate project and tho it looks simple when you see it,  it's NOT.  I do however love a challenge, and this lived up to everything I like in a project,  it gave me new skills, honed the ones I already had, not to mention a new respect for the craft and I probably aided the general economy in how much Ibuprofen I used to manage the headaches it caused me.  What more can you ask for?  LOL

I reckon by looking at the radar the rain will reach me in about two hours...  I fully intend to go outside and dance in it.  It will be about 4 am,  and thank the heavens I live in the middle of nowhere so that no one will see me,  cause I really would rather not have my neighbors freak out at my apparent insanity  :)

I'll update later,  perhaps even with pics of finished project afore mentioned, and if I'm really lucky,  rainfall amounts!

It's been a few or more days since I've sent up a deviation,  but that's because life is dynamic and doesn't like to wait on me.

I do have a couple of smaller items to upload (probably in a couple of days,  when I get the time to take pics)  but I'm working on a large project that I'll show when I'm done.

We still need rain.  Seriously.  We need rain.  The drought has gone as high on the meter as it can go now, I can't remember a time when it's been this bad.  I'm sure we'll get rain eventually,  but I don't know how many plants we'll lose,  or how many more fires there will be before it finally gets to us. (We're in central Texas,  and I feel for those in Australia who are battling the same drought and fire danger situations.)

In the mean-time...I wait.

Patiently.

For rain.

Ok well I'm in central Texas, and we haven't had any rain more than a few drops at a time since April of last year.   It's getting pretty desperate here with the dust and dry and fire dangers.  Now...  we have wind,  lots of wind...  too much wind.  Not only is the fire danger extreme, but the danged dust is driving me insane!

I want to plant my veggie garden, but I won't plow when it's this dry.  It will RUIN the soil structure for the entire season.  If we could just get a couple of inches within the span of two or three days,  it would make plowing possible.

I don't want to complain too much, I know others are fighting fires in Australia, floods in some places, ice in the north...  but dangit!  I need RAIN!

Ok here's a request...  all of you that are getting enough rain,  please go outside,  stand and face the general direction of TEXAS... and *blow really really hard*!   Maybe if you all do that,  some of the rain will move down this way  LOL

Ok,  rant over,  *steps down off her soapbox*.   Whew,  I feel so much better :)

Keep your fingers crossed.... we might get rain in the next couple of days, not much, but at this point, I'd take a sparrow spittin' twice on the road :)

Hey there everyone!

Thank you so much for your comments and favorites. I really appreciate it.

I've started making a lot of plushies and smaller items with scrap yarn I have in addition to jewelry, hoping to gather up a good inventory to start selling. I'm making progress there, so might be setting up some kind of online shop in addition to selling things locally.

:iconrahxy: is my oldest daughter, you should *really* visit her page, her artwork and photography are awesome!

I love ideas and requests, so don't be shy!
